Infant Jesus Cathedral

Consecrated by Cardinal Telesphore P Toppo, Arch Bishop of Ranch, on Dec 03 2005

Infant Jesus Cathedral, Tangasseri of the Roman Latin Catholic Diocese of Quilon(Kollam), Kerala, India, holds a prime place of prominence in the annals of the Church in India. Diocese of Quilon was established in 1329. The Infant Jesus Church was established in the year 1614 by the Portuguese Missionaries and when the Dutch partly destroyed this Church after their colonial invasion in 1661, it was built by the Carmelite Missionaries in 1789. By the end of the 19th century it was elevated to the status of Pro-Cathedral. The old church gave way to the magnificent Cathedral in 2005.
